This type of coral is not recommended for novice aquarists.  Goni's sometimes require direct target feeding as they can be picky eaters.

Like other large polyp stony (LPS) corals, Goniopora have a symbiotic relationship with marine algae, known as zooxanthellae, from which they receive much of their nutrients. Goniopora Corals capture planktonic organisms, food particles from the water column, and absorb dissolved organic matter.

Good kH levels are required at all times to maintain a strong skeletal structure.   Much of the energy requirements of Goniopora is provided by zooxanthellae which are a photosynthetic organism that live in its body tissue. Zooxanthellae supply the Goniopora's polyps with oxygen and food, and are primarily responsible for the brilliant colours of the coral.

In captivity, these corals benefit from liquid nutrients like Marine Snow, Phytoplex, as well as, lipid-rich phytoplankton substitutes.
