This attractive fish originates in fast flowing waters throughout South East Asia.


Maximum Size and Longevity

The Siamese Flying Fox grows up to 15cm in size, and can live as long as 10 years.

Water Quality ·

Temperature: 24°C - 26°C. · pH: 6.5—7.5 · General Hardness: 50—150 ppm. Feeding This active community fish is a tireless algae eater which is effective on even the most stubborn types of algae, and it won’t harm plants. This makes it a perfect addition to tropical tanks. They will also accept prepared foods.

Colour and Varieties

A slender fish with a distinct black horizontal stripe from nose to the fork of the tail with silver white underside with a pair of short forward pointing barbels.



Sexing is difficult as no external differences are visible, other than that the females may be slightly fatter.


General Information

The Siamese Flying Fox is best kept in schools of 6 or more. As it is a strong jumper, the use of a cover glass is recommended. The Siamese Flying Fox is a useful addition to your tank, as it is one of the best algae eaters available. An attractive community fish, it is very popular and available throughout the year.

We provide a wide range of exotic live animals that are by their nature, perishable.  The duty of care for these animals passes to you the customer at the time we ship these items to you.  eQuaria does not accept the return of live fish, coral or other perishable items.  We recommend that you conduct your own research into the care of these animals and make educated buying decisions.

As eQuaria cannot control shipping processes, weather, airline delays and other unforeseen circumstance, fish mortality may occur.  By purchasing these goods, you accept this risk and while every effort is made by eQuaria to ensure your fish arrive alive and well, no guarantees can be made.

eQuaria does not accept any Dead on Arrival (DOA) claims which is inclusive of freight and shipping costs.  If you are unwilling to accept these terms, we invite you to purchase in store.
