Plant Essential® General Hardness is designed to add minerals such as magnesium and calcium to the planted aquarium. Magnesium is the central metal in the organometallic molecule chlorophyll and is required for many biochemical processes. Magnesium deficiencies can often be visually diagnosed by the chlorosis of plant leaves, whilst vein colour remains unchanged. Recommended magnesium concentration = 5-10ppm. Calcium is essential to maintain cell wall rigidity as well as activating key enzymes therefore low concentrations can result in limited plant growth. Calcium deficiencies can often be visually diagnosed by stunted growth rates and discolouration of plant leaves. Recommended calcium concentration = 15-30ppm.
