Hollow Log Ornament Small
Got some Bristlenose to sell? Id like to sell some fish
You may ask yourself are fish tank ornaments really that necessary? Do I really need that shipwreck centrepiece or that beautiful castle that turns a sad boring corner of the aquarium from plain to a powerful statement? Sure its eye catching and aesthetically pleasing, but just how necessary is it? The answer is that it is very necessary.
Specialised hollow tubes used in aquariums are normally referred to as caves or hides and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
With specific reference to caves and hides, many species like L numbers, bristlenose, pelcostomus and shrimp need an appropriate hide for safety and for breeding. L numbers and bristlenose tend to like a tight fitting hide and prefer those with a closed off end for breeding. In general a breeding cave for bristlenose is ideally about one and a half times the fishes length by one and a half times their width. This allows the male just enough room to court the female and make magic. It is seemingly a tight fit, but that’s how they like it.
Other ways in which aquarium ornaments are vital are in their ability to provide shelter for frightened or skittish fish or as a sanctuary in which eggs can be laid for breeding.
The crucial thing to be aware of in choosing an ornament is the size of the opening relevant to the fish that you have. Avoid ornaments that are too tight – even for catfish as they can become stuck and drown.
